About the Town & Country Fire Department The Town & Country Fire Department of Horseheads New York proudly protects 10-15,000 people living in an area of 50 square miles. We operate out of 2 stations that protect commercial, residential, and rural area. Our department is a private department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status.
What Explorer Post 3816 does ? Explorer Posts are youth organizations sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, and are composed of young men and women between the ages of 14 & 21. The objective of the Post is to provide a learning center to youth of the community, and to give the experience in firefighting to enhance their ability to be a viable member to a Fire Department and community somewhere.
Explorer Post 3816 learns nearly all aspects of basic fire fighting. This includes such topics as Fire Suppression, salvage/overhaul, Ladder Operations, First Aid, Public Relations, SCBA, Etc. Explorers are issued a set of turnout gear for safety reasons. We have training every 1st Tuesday & 3rd Monday of every month, and have our monthly Business Meetings on the 4th Monday .
Post 3816 members also assist with various Town & Country Fire Department functions, such as Fundraisers, Public Education, and different service projects.
